Get to Know IHI

Institute for Healthcare Improvement - USA

IHI is an independent non-profitable entity, focusing exclusively in conducting healthcare improvement all over the world. Founded on 1991 with headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts, IHI develops promising concepts to improve patient’s assistance, through campaigns and information to Health Institutions enrolled voluntarily.

IQG is the national coordinator of this program with over 80 Hospitals enrolled.

Let’s make history!

The Five million lives campaign is a voluntary initiative to protect patients from incidents and damages caused during assistance during the next two years (December 2006 - December 2008).

IQG has been invited by IHI to be the Coordinator of such Campaign here, in Brazil. The objective is to become partners with Hospital Institutions that work aiming at patient safety.

It is intended to describe experiences, changes and improvement projects and the results from partner organizations. This worldwide program understands that the comparisons of Good Practices are a valuable model to accelerate the understanding on actions for assistance’s safety.

To change patient’s assistance paradigms new approaches are needed in the education of healthcare professionals.  These new approaches include the logic of interdisciplinarity as a cohesive factor between different knowledges.  Experts from several subjects must be excited about a common will and good will. Each one willing to make efforts outside their own domain and their own technical language in order to enter an unknown domain. The interdisciplinarity assumes free thought, a curiosity that  seeks beyond itself.
